Require Our College to Expand Real Student Mental Health Support
The Issue
I said what I said because I am tired of pretending this is okay. I really hope my college sees this, because at the end of the day they do not care about mental health the way they say they do. Students are struggling, venting, breaking down, suicidal or struggling with self harm and still getting treated like we are supposed to just keep going and keep smiling.
This is bigger than one bad day or one frustrated post. So many students are overwhelmed, burned out, anxious, depressed, suicidal and trying to carry all of that while keeping up with classes, work and everything else college throws at us. When a college talks about caring but students cannot get timely, meaningful support, that message feels hollow.
Our college needs to expand real mental health support for students, not just talk or post about awareness and move on. That means more accessible counseling, shorter wait times, clear ways to get help in a crisis, being patient when someone is struggling to talk about their feelings, letting students write down how they feel if they're struggling to talk about their feelings and support that students can actually use without jumping through hoops. If this college wants to say it cares about us, then it needs to prove it with resources, staffing, and actions.
I am speaking up because students deserve better than being ignored until we are at our limit. We should not have to beg our own college to take our mental health seriously. If you believe our colleges must do more than talk, please sign this petition and help demand real support for students.
