Alana Miller is 17 years old. She is a student at Oak Creek High School in Wisconsin. This year, she reported racial slurs and discrimination to school officials at least seven times. Each time she did, things got worse.

"They start getting worse after that, because now they're mad at you, that you snitched on them," Alana said, according to FOX6 News. Students began targeting her in ways harder to prove — comments designed to fly under the radar "unless you're Black."

After reporting a recent incident, she received a response from the school board president that said, quote: "I would definitely have a conversation with your principal." That's it. No policy. No consequences. No accountability.

So Alana took her story to TikTok. Her three-part video has been viewed more than 103,000 times. In it, she calls for something specific: any student who uses a racial slur should be required to research and write an essay on the history of the language they used. "That's not okay, and obviously it's not being taught right now," she said.

There is no such anti-racism policy in place.

The Oak Creek-Franklin School Board has the authority to change that. They can adopt a formal anti-racism policy — one with real, consistent consequences, including Alana's proposed restorative education measure. They can ensure students who report discrimination are protected from retaliation, not left to fight alone.

"It's the end of the school year, and I'm still being racially discriminated against," Alana said.
