Require Microsoft to Refund or Restore Games From Hacked Accounts

Require Microsoft to Refund or Restore Games From Hacked Accounts
The Issue
'My account was hacked and its information changed. Microsoft support, after getting back to me, simply told me they would suspend the entire account rather than give it back or refund my games, or transfer my games to my new account. This should, frankly, be considered robbery. I am not paying $30-$40 again for Minecraft or anything else I already own. I think myself and everyone who's had this experience with Microsoft should be refunded in full if they will not restore access to your games or account.' - Richard Lawson
Hacked accounts are a serious and growing problem. When a hacker gains access to an account, they can change the details, effectively locking out the legitimate owner. This leads to loss of access to purchased games and software, leaving gamers not only frustrated but also financially burdened to repurchase titles they already own. For many gamers, these purchases represent a significant investment of their finite resources.
Microsoft, as a leading tech company, has a responsibility to its consumers to protect their digital rights and investments. Unfortunately, their current tendency of suspending entire accounts, without providing an option to access or refund the purchased games, neglects the customer's loss and places undue burden on them.
Microsoft must change this to allow refunds or transfers of games from compromised accounts. Implementing a solution to verify the ownership of accounts and restoring access or providing compensation would ensure that customers are treated fairly. A policy that acknowledges the legitimacy of ownership and offers tangible remedies will demonstrate Microsoft's commitment to their customers' satisfaction and digital rights.
It's crucial that Microsoft takes immediate steps to amend their current policies about hacked accounts. Allowing users to transfer their purchases to a new account or obtain a refund would show a commitment to respecting and supporting their customers' investments.
We urge other affected gamers and supporters to join this petition calling for Microsoft to refund games from hacked accounts. This is not just about a single account or a handful of games; it's about setting a standard for digital consumer rights. Please sign this petition to demand change and protect the investments we make in digital content.
