Require metal detectors at Liverpool NY High School

Require metal detectors at Liverpool NY High School
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the safety of our students and teachers at Liverpool High School in New York. Recently, there have been far too many shooting threats, causing anxiety and fear among students, parents, and faculty. The possibility of an incident occurring at our school is terrifying, and we cannot afford to wait until a tragedy strikes.
Implementing metal detectors at Liverpool High School is a proactive step towards ensuring the safety of everyone on campus. Metal detectors have been successfully used in numerous schools nationwide to reduce the risk of weapons being brought into school premises. In schools that have adopted this measure, there is a notable decrease in violent incidents and a heightened sense of security among students and staff.
School shootings are a harsh reality in this country, and we must protect our children by taking every possible precaution. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 20% of schools reported using random metal detector checks on students in 2019. These preventative measures are vital in maintaining a secure and productive learning environment and can significantly deter potential threats.
Furthermore, the installation of metal detectors can work hand-in-hand with existing security protocols such as locked doors, surveillance cameras, and increased police presence, providing a comprehensive security strategy.
We urge the Liverpool Central School District to prioritize the safety of its students by installing metal detectors at the entrance of Liverpool High School. This initiative would send a strong message that the safety of the school community is of utmost importance and is not taken lightly.
Please join me in calling on the school district to take immediate action to protect our children and provide peace of mind to parents and educators. Sign this petition to make Liverpool High School a safer place for everyone.
