Require Mandatory Reporting of Cats Hit by Vehicles

The Issue

I am a lifelong animal lover, with a special affection for cats. My family and I have always had them as part of our lives. Unfortunately, we've experienced the heartbreak of losing our beloved feline friends to road accidents. The pain is made even worse when the person responsible doesn't stop or report it - they just carry on as if nothing happened.

This is not only deeply upsetting but also unjust. Currently, under UK law, while you are legally required to report accidents involving dogs, there's no such requirement for cats. This discrepancy is hard to justify given that both animals are often kept as cherished pets in many households.

According to Cats Protection League statistics, around 230,000 cats are killed on UK roads each year (source: Cats Protection League). Each one of these represents a potential unreported incident causing grief and distress for pet owners.

We believe that all animals should be treated with respect and dignity; their lives matter too! It's time we changed this law and made reporting compulsory for all domestic pets involved in road traffic accidents - including cats!

Please join us in calling upon lawmakers to amend this legislation so that it reflects the value we place on all our pets' lives equally. Sign this petition today!
