Require life-saving equipment at UK open waters and rivers
The Issue
my beautiful daughter tragically lost her life in an accident at a local river. She isn't alone; many families have faced similar heart-wrenching losses over the past year. This is a rising concern across the UK, where preventable deaths are happening all too frequently at open waters
It's time we proactively address this issue by requiring life-saving equipment, to be present at all open waters and rivers throughout the UK. These simple yet effective tools can provide critical assistance during emergencies, offering individuals more time for rescue and potentially saving countless lives.
To install and maintain visible life rings, throw lines, rescue poles at regular intervals near river access points and popular open-water sites. Authorities need to add clear multilingual signage about risks, depth and currents, and even install emergency phones or QR-coded maps that call rescue services with location data.
Regular maintenance schedules, staff or trained volunteers for high-risk areas, and public education campaigns about cold-water shock and safe rescue techniques. Funding to come from existing safety budgets, targeted grants and partnerships with rescue organizations. or im willing to hold a charity event to raise the money if the authorities wont act.
By signing this petition, we can send a powerful message to policymakers that the safety of our loved ones cannot be compromised. Together, we can advocate for change and ensure that effective life-saving measures are in place to protect the lives of those who enjoy and live near the UK's vast waterways. Please sign this petition to help prevent more unnecessary tragedies and save lives.
