In our tight-knit community, an alarming number of residents face the heart-wrenching dilemma of having to take out loans or borrow money just to keep a roof over their heads. The escalating rent prices in Washington, DC have become not just a burden but an unmanageable financial strain for many families and individuals. We can and must do better. By implementing realistic, targeted rent control measures, lawmakers can provide much-needed relief. These measures could include freezing rent increases for a specified period, providing tax incentives for landlords who maintain affordable rent, and increasing funding for affordable housing projects.
