A big thank you to the 334 people who have signed the petition, and a huge thank you to those who have shared the petition. Please continue to share! I recently visited the park and saw multiple active gopher tortoise mounds just recently bushhogged over. I also watched at least three eagles roosting in the tall pine canopy, from the Cross Seminole Trail. The high canopy of slash pine trees is preferred nesting spot for them, and this relatively small piece of land is great for the eagles, both in terms of seclusion and proximity to lakes and food. There are only a couple other active and successful eagle nests in Winter Springs, which makes SE004 so special. While the nest is at the edge of the southern swampy portion of the property, a significant northern portion of the property is dry and home to many gopher tortoises and other animals. This dry, clear area which is being bushhogged could be used for low impact recreation (hiking, biking, community gardening, etc.) in harmony with wildlife on the property, and at low cost considering the existing trailhead parking. Commerical development will add traffic issues to the 434/417 intersection, and have irreversible environmental impact. I understand there is interest in near term tax revenue, but consideration for the long term financial impact from traffic issues, pollution, storm drainage and crime needs to be part of the decision. Please keep up the petition and make the spirit of "Florida Forever" something real and tangible in our community! Thank you.
