Crabs, Lobsters, Prawns and Crawfish (decapod crustaceans) face extreme pain and suffering every day. They are often torn apart and boiled alive. It is estimated that a brown crab boiled alive may remain conscious for up to three minutes. Cooking any other animal like this would be considered horrendous yet these creatures suffer this fate. Many scientists have determined that these creatures need to be protected. Even spreading awareness helps, we can stop supporting places that kill them inhumanely! You can still enjoy your favorite dishes but let's do right by these creatures.

We need your support to ensure we can catch enough movement to bring upon a bill to protect crustaceans and spread awareness about how to humanely kill crustaceans through a stab through the head or freezing them. Even Gordan Ramsey has a humane method for killing them!

Many countries already protect them, including New Zealand, Austria, Norway, Switzerland, some Australian states and territories. The UK is working on it, lets catch up!

Studies have shown that crustaceans like crabs and lobsters can feel pain (Elwood et al., 2009). Many countries, including Switzerland and New Zealand, have already passed laws requiring humane killing methods for crustaceans. It's time for us to follow suit.

When I was 10 years old visiting San Francisco, I saw cooks throwing live crabs and lobsters into boiling pots. I can still see them vigorously trying to escape and clearly being in distress. It was horrible seeing them be treated as such. While these animals are part of mainstream food such as lobster tail and crawfish boils, all I seek is to make it illegal to kill these animals inhumanely by live boils or ripping them apart alive.

Let's reduce the total suffering on this planet by ensuring that these creatures are killed humanely before cooking. The south is huge on its hospitality and crawfish boils, lets make this work together so we can all enjoy crawfish boils even more. Please sign this petition to urge lawmakers to pass a law preventing crustaceans from being boiled alive! Spreading awareness and boycotting places that do it inhumanely helps too! Again even a top level Chef like Gordan Ramsey has a humane way of killing these creatures.
