Imagine my shock and fear when the hospital staff, who should be a beacon of hope and safety, were completely unaware of my condition and simply labeled it as a "headache". This misdiagnosis was not only incorrect but also dangerous, showcasing a glaring gap in our healthcare system.

Autonomic dysreflexia is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention. It is characterized by sudden and severe high blood pressure, which can cause strokes, seizures, or even death. Despite its severity, many healthcare professionals remain uninformed about this condition. This is unacceptable, particularly in hospitals where individuals like me turn to in times of crisis.

In the United Kingdom, approximately 105,000 people live with spinal cord injuries, many of whom are at risk for autonomic dysreflexia. The lack of knowledge among medical practitioners about this condition not only puts lives in danger but also erodes the trust patients place in their healthcare providers.
