Require Hockey Canada to Implement Safety Measures for Women

Require Hockey Canada to Implement Safety Measures for Women
The Issue
Hockey Canada, as the leading organization governing the sport of hockey in the country, has an inherent responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved, especially women who support and attend various hockey events. There have been growing concerns regarding the safety of women when spending time with Hockey Canada players. It's time for Hockey Canada to take accountability and proactive measures to create a safe and inclusive environment for ALL hockey fans, regardless of gender, by implementing comprehensive safety protocols.
We demand Hockey Canada to consider:
Performing regular reviews and feedback systems to continually assess and improve safety protocols, including realtime security checks, with an emphasis on protecting women (and if you don't care about women...the reputations of hockey players too).
Requiring players to attend annual mandatory consent & sexual violence training, as well as bystander intervention training.
Requiring coaches to participate in trauma-informed training to equip team management and leadership on recognizing and preventing predatory behaviour.
Hiring more women in leadership roles from team management to security to advisory boards.
Maintaining a confidential internal registry of individuals barred for misconduct and share it across teams and leagues.
Hiring third-party monitors to perform random spot checks at team events.
Ensuring the safety and dignity of women as a collective responsibility.
Hockey Canada can set an example for other sporting organizations in the country and around the world.
Join us in urging Hockey Canada to prioritize these crucial safety measures and demonstrate their commitment to protecting women by signing this petition today.
