The Issue

Nathaly Ramirez was only 23 years old. On 10/6/26, her life was taken, and even in her final moments she was shielding her 8 month old baby girl and saving her daughter's life. I am a domestic violence survivor who almost lost my life, so this does not feel distant to me. It feels personal, painful, and infuriating, because we keep watching lives get stolen after warning signs are missed and after abuse is minimized.

Domestic violence is not love. It is control, fear, and a silent killer. Nathaly should still be here, and her baby girl should not have to grow up with this loss. So many survivors are doing everything they can to stay alive while systems move too slowly, treat abuse like a private matter, or fail to recognize when someone is in extreme danger.

That is why I am calling on local leaders, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and victim services offices to create and fund high-risk domestic violence response teams. When there are clear signs that someone is in danger, agencies should not be working in silos or waiting until it is too late. They need coordinated case review, faster intervention, survivor-centered safety planning, and urgent action when lives are on the line.

We speak out because Nathaly no longer can. We say her name because she mattered, and because honoring her has to mean changing something real. Please sign this petition to demand a stronger response to high-risk domestic violence cases before another mother, daughter, or child pays the price.
