The Issue

We, the residents of Colwood Corners in Colwood, BC, Canada, are facing a significant issue that is affecting our quality of life. Green Leaf Bistro Vietnamese restaurant's HVAC system is causing noise pollution and venting odorous oil-saturated air into our indoor and outdoor living spaces. This intrusion not only disrupts our peace and right to quiet enjoyment of our living space but also poses potential health risks.

The World Health Organization states that noise pollution can lead to adverse health effects such as sleep disturbance, cardiovascular issues and cognitive impairment in children (WHO). Moreover, exposure to oil-saturated air can cause respiratory problems and skin irritation (Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety).

We understand the importance of local businesses like this restaurant to our community's economy. However, we believe it is equally important for these establishments to respect residents' rights to quiet enjoyment of their homes.

We urge the owners and management of this restaurant to take immediate action by upgrading/altering their HVAC system. Potential enhancements include special filters such as activated charcoal or HEPA filters to help neutralize strong odours (Camfil). Additional enhancements are available to reduce noise pollution as well (Soundfighter). This upgrade/alteration will reduce noise levels and improve air quality by adequately filtering out oil particles and odours before they are vented.

By signing this petition, you are supporting our advocacy for a healthier and more enjoyable living environment while maintaining respect between businesses and residents in Colwood. Please sign this petition today!
