Require Food Labels in Canada to Show Product Origin

Require Food Labels in Canada to Show Product Origin
The Issue
Petition to the Government of Canada for Mandatory Product Origin and Manufacturing Labeling
To: The House of Commons of Canada
We, the undersigned residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House of Commons to the following:
Whereas:
Consumers have the right to make informed decisions about the products they purchase, including knowing where a product was originally sourced and where it was finally manufactured.
Current labeling laws do not consistently require manufacturers to disclose the full manufacturing origin of their products, often leading to misleading claims about a product's true country of production.
Transparency in manufacturing locations would empower consumers, promote ethical business practices, and support local industries.
Many other nations have stronger country-of-origin labeling laws that provide consumers with clear and accurate information.
Improved labeling requirements would benefit Canadian businesses that manufacture domestically and allow consumers to support them more easily.
The current practice of labeling products with only "Imported by - [Company Name]" is insufficient and does not provide consumers with the necessary information about where a product was actually manufactured.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, request that the Government of Canada take immediate action to:
Implement legislation that mandates clear, standardized labeling on all consumer products, specifying both the country of origin of key raw materials and the final country of manufacture.
Ensure that such labeling is easy to read, truthful, and consistently applied across all product categories.
Establish and enforce penalties for misleading or incomplete product labeling.
We urge the government to prioritize transparency in product manufacturing and provide Canadian consumers with the information they need to make informed purchasing choices.
Signed,
