Require Family Courts to Prioritize Children’s Stability in Custody Cases
Require Family Courts to Prioritize Children’s Stability in Custody Cases
The Issue
I’m speaking up because too many families are being pushed through child custody battles that feel less focused on children and more focused on conflict. When people hear “family court,” they assume the system is built to protect kids first. But so many parents and caregivers come away feeling like children’s routines, emotional safety, and day-to-day stability are treated like secondary issues.
This is bigger than one family. A custody case can shape a child’s home life, school life, mental well-being, and sense of security for years. When court decisions drag on, ignore instability, or fail to center what a child actually needs to feel safe and grounded, kids are the ones who live with the consequences. Families should not have to feel powerless while children are caught in the middle.
That is why I’m calling for family courts to prioritize children’s stability in custody decisions and procedures. Courts should use child-centered standards that give real weight to consistency, safety, school continuity, and emotional well-being. The system should reduce unnecessary conflict, move cases responsibly, and make sure the people deciding these cases never lose sight of who is most affected.
If you believe children deserve a custody process that protects their stability instead of adding more chaos to their lives, please sign this petition. We need family courts to do what they are supposed to do: put children first.
