Require Distribution of Settlement Funds for Whitefishlake 459 Band Members
The Issue
As a member of the Atikameg, Whitefishlake 459 First Nation in Alberta, Canada, I am reaching out to implore our Chief and Band council members to act regarding an urgent issue. For seven long years, we were promised that the locked funds from the settlement would be distributed to eligible members who signed up to receive the Cows & Plows (C&P) benefit. This was meant to be executed by August 2024, but we are yet to see any clear progression.
The delay is causing grief and tumult amongst our members. Over these years, we have lost numerous members who would have greatly reaped benefits from these funds or would have afforded appropriate and essential treatments using these resources. It is deeply unfortunate they did not get the chance to do this. Continuous deferral of the settlement disbursement is not just affecting our trust in our leaders but also the overall morale of our community, Everyone deserves better in there lives and equal treatment from our band leaders
We make an earnest plea to our Chief and Band council members to decide and act on distributing the settlement funds and in full amount We request a response by September 2, 2024, as mentioned previously. If we do not receive a satisfactory reply by the designated date, we are ready to take legal action against Chief and council. Now it's passed mentioned previously September 2,/2024 for leadership to respond and make a decision about are demands for 100% funds distribute out to off reserve members Cows&Plows it's now September 5/2024 ,we'll give Chief and Band council a little bit longer to make a decision by September 10th ,
Our patience has dwindled over time, and it is high time we experience the justice and smiles we were promised. Let it not be the case that more of our members pass on without enjoying what they were entitled to. We can no longer stand idle and watch this injustice carry on.
