Require congress and senate to prevent government shutdowns

The Issue

As a dedicated essential government employee, I find myself facing an unfair challenge when the government shuts down. Just like me, numerous government employees are required to continue their work without pay, reflecting immense commitment and resilience. However, if I let my workplace close its doors, I would be terminated—no questions asked. Why shouldn't our elected officials be held to the same standard?

It's disheartening to see Congress and the Senate, whose chief responsibility is to keep our government operational, fail in executing this fundamental duty. Instead of working diligently to protect the livelihoods of millions, they seem to maneuver freely without any real accountability. This behavior is reminiscent of untouchable Kings and Queens, indifferent to the struggles faced by everyday government workers.

I believe that any member of Congress or the Senate who allows the government to shut down should face consequences, just like any other government employee would. They should not be eligible for reelection, should forfeit all their pay and benefits during a shutdown, and must remain in session until the government is operating smoothly once again.

This proposal may sound radical, but it's a necessary step towards accountability and transparency. The people deserve better representation, and our lawmakers should bear the consequences of their inaction. Such measures would ensure that keeping the government open remains their topmost priority.

Join me in demanding that Congress and the Senate do their most basic job: to keep the government open. Sign this petition and drive change for a more accountable government. Stand with the essential workers, and stand for a future where elected officials are accountable to the same standards as the people they serve. Please sign the petition to make this vital change happen.
