As a concerned parent in our community, I am deeply worried about the safety of our children at Bollman Bridge Elementary and other Howard County schools. Recent incidents in neighboring county schools have made it painfully clear that we need to take concrete steps to ensure our children's safety and our peace of mind. 

The prevalence of school shootings in our region has left us haunted by fears of what could happen at any time. It's not just a concern hidden in the back of our minds, it's a persistent anxiety that surfaces every time we say goodbye to our kids at the school gate. We simply cannot afford a moment of complacency when it comes to the safety of our students.

We propose a simple yet effective measure: requiring clear backpacks for all students at Bollman Bridge Elementary School and other Howard County schools. This policy would not only act as a deterrent for students thinking of bringing weapons or contraband to school but also provide an additional layer of safety by allowing school staff to easily identify any potential threats. 

Statistics have shown that transparency measures like clear backpack policies can contribute significantly to school safety. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, schools that have implemented clear backpack initiatives have reported increased peace of mind among parents, students, and faculty. 

Adopting this policy will send a strong message that we are serious about preventing violence and ensuring the safety of every child in our community. It’s a proactive step that shows we value safety as much as education.
