Require Cameron County Approval for Starbase City Votes

The Issue

Growing up in Brownsville, Texas, I've always believed in the power of community and the importance of having a say in the decisions that affect our lives. Recently, I went to cast my vote, hoping to have a say in whether SpaceX's proposed Starbase City could dictate its own future. I was astonished to find that this critical matter wasn't on my ballot. Although I've spent my entire life here, I was denied a voice.

SpaceX has been a significant part of our region, bringing jobs and economic opportunities, but the ability to vote on the decisions of Starbase City was limited to its "residents"—many of whom are employees of the very entity that stands to benefit the most. Meanwhile, long-term residents of Brownsville and South Padre Island, those of us who will be affected by these changes, were excluded from the decision-making process.

This is not just frustrating—it's fundamentally unfair. The creation of Starbase City and its governance impact all of Cameron County and beyond, and these decisions should not be made without input from those who've called this place home their entire lives.

I am calling for a change where any and all voting or propositions that originate from Starbase City must also be subject to approval by the residents of Cameron County. Our community deserves to have a voice in the development and actions that affect our environment, economy, and way of life.

We need transparency, fairness, and inclusiveness in these decisions. Involving all Cameron County residents ensures a democratic process that takes into account the perspectives and concerns of the broader community, not just those with direct ties to SpaceX.

Your signature on this petition will send a powerful message: The residents of Brownsville, South Padre Island, and all of Cameron County want a fair say in the future of our region. Please join me in advocating for these rights by signing this petition today. Together, we can work towards a system that respects the voices of all its citizens.
