Require Cameras In Special Education Classrooms In Maryland
The Issue
Greetings Parents!
As we all know, this world we are living in today isn't the rainbows and smiles it used to be. Was it really even rainbows and smiles back then? That's a matter of opinion; but what we all can agree on is, there is a shift today in what is acceptable. Technology has made some of us popular and successful. Technology has advanced and played a part in our day to day lives in major ways, yet , when it comes to safety in our schools its limited. My 3 year old daughter is conquering life daily as a non verbal kid with Autism. She began IEP this year and just a month in, there is an investigation of child neglect and possible abuse that my husband and I launched when our daughter, who we check daily for any boo boos, was picked up from school with bruising and swelling to her face. We are beyond confident that this incident happened in school. Like I said we check her DAILY. She can't speak so we have to be extra vigilant. When the school was contacted, the lack of care and concern was unreal. They thought we'd have a little meeting, they'd deny our request and poof, we'd go away. Not the Scotts! The school neglected to follow major protocol and showed very little interest in how the injury happened. They assumed the "we don't know what happened" stance would suffice. It can be scary sending a neurotypical 3 year old to school, but for those of us with kids with special needs, non verbal, autistic and beyond, it terrifying. So now we fight! No no no, Mayweather, take off the gloves! I mean fight for our kids safety within the system. I'm calling for law makers to make cameras mandatory in every special education classroom across Maryland. Please help us get our kids the protection they deserve. They may not know what happened but that camera will! The time is now to keep our teachers honest and our kids safe.
Thank you
