The Issue

As a member of the Barrett Township community, my desire to participate actively in township affairs is often stifled due to inconvenient meeting times. Many residents, including myself, find it incredibly challenging to attend meetings scheduled during work hours, such as 11 AM. With jobs and other daily obligations, these early times seem deliberately chosen to limit attendance and exclude the working population from being a part of crucial community decisions.

Having township meetings at times that coincide with standard work hours not only diminishes community participation but also raises concerns about transparency and inclusivity. Our voices matter just as much as those who may have more flexible schedules, and it's essential that everyone has the opportunity to attend, listen, and influence the discussions that impact our lives and our community.

A simple solution to this is to reschedule these meetings to 6 PM or later. By doing so, the township can ensure broader participation that encompasses a more diverse segment of our community. This change would reflect a commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and community spirit, values that we hold dear in Barrett.

Rethinking the timing of our township meetings to accommodate working residents will not only empower citizens but also enhance the quality of community decisions, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration. It's time for our township leaders to recognize the importance of every citizen's voice and take actionable steps to ensure everyone can participate.

Please sign this petition to urge Barrett township authorities to amend the current meeting schedule and facilitate a more inclusive environment for all residents.
