The Issue

In Nigeria, worrying about the safety of our children as they attend school is a daily concern for parents like me. Our kids are our top priority, yet their safety is often at risk due to the lack of security in educational institutions. We entrust schools with the responsibility of nurturing and educating them, but first and foremost, they must be protected from potential harm.

Given the concerning state of security across the nation, there is an urgent need for the deployment of armed police officers to schools to ensure a safe learning environment. With approximately 129,614 primary schools and about 43,361 secondary schools throughout the country, the need for enhanced security measures has never been more evident.

Currently, the Nigeria Police Force comprises around 371,800 officers, with over 100,000 officers dedicated specifically to protecting VIPs. Meanwhile, our schools, the very institutions that shape future generations, remain vulnerable. By having at least two armed police officers stationed at each primary and secondary school, we can create a significant deterrent against potential security threats. This includes 24-hour security for boarding schools and 12-hour security for day schools, ensuring children's safety during school hours.

The government must prioritize resources and manpower to protect our children, redirecting a fraction of the police force to safeguard educational establishments. The safety of our future leaders should not be compromised and requires immediate attention.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for the necessary security measures to keep our children safe while they attend school. Together, we can make a difference and push for a safer educational environment in Nigeria. Please sign and share to show your support.
