I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported my petition—we currently have around 504 signatures, with a goal of reaching 1,000. Here is an update on my ongoing advocacy efforts.
I recently sent a follow-up email to the Commissioner of the OHL and the OHL’s Manager of Culture and Community. I also included contacts from the London Knights organization and CBC correspondents I collaborated with last year. My commitment to advocate on behalf of everyone supporting this cause remains strong.
Below is the copy of the email I sent on January 26, 2026.
“Dear Bryan Crawford,
I am writing to follow up regarding your email sent to me on 2025-11-24, in which you stated, “We plan to have some initial elements rolled out later this year, beginning at our league properties like the Connor McDavid Top Prospects Game.” With this in mind, I would like to inquire whether the OHL community implemented closed captioning at the 2026 Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game, which was held on 2026-01-14 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. If closed captioning was not made available at this event, I am seeking clarification on the reasoning behind this lack of accessibility.
As someone committed to advocating for rightful adherence to accessibility standards for all individuals who are deaf or deafened, including hockey fans, I am continuing my efforts in this area. I maintain an ongoing relationship with the Canadian Hearing Society (CHS), who have generously offered their expertise regarding requirements for captioning at events. Should the Hockey League wish to inquire further about CHS's accessibility services, the designated contact is Pri Patel, who can be reached at ppatel@cha.ca.
I remain persistent in contacting OHL and seeking support from all available sources to ensure that this journey towards increased accessibility is fulfilled. It is difficult to comprehend why, ten months after my initial outreach, I must continually approach the OHL organization regarding this matter. If progress had been made, I would expect to see these improvements reflected at the London Knights games I regularly attend. Ensuring accessibility for hearing impaired fans should be a priority for the league, fostering inclusivity for all supporters.
At this time, I kindly request an update on where the OHL stands in terms of including hearing impaired fans and implementing accessibility measures. Your timely response would be greatly appreciated as I continue to advocate for these essential changes.”
