Require all motorcyclists in Florida to wear helmets

Require all motorcyclists in Florida to wear helmets
The Issue
This image is me taking a 3 wheel basic rider course which I passed four years ago in December 18, 2022. In this picture is a class photo of me taking my 3 wheel basic rider course which is sponsored by the motorcycle safety foundation. If you were to be like me and be responsible taking a respective safety course ensures you know how to ride responsibly and ensures discounts on your insurance rates. I blurred everyone's face but mine since I want this petition to get more views and I do not want people to file a privacy complaint because of this especially on a public petition site and wanting media attention. If you want to see this unblurred please follow me on Instagram on both @gabrieldelnodal and @RedemptionGabe. We hope that motorcycle safety is important and it matters.
In Southeast Florida, the increase in motorcycle accidents has been alarming, as have been the fatalities resulting from these accidents, particularly when motorcyclists are not wearing helmets. The sight of firsthand tragedies and the subsequent impact on families and communities drives us to advocate for change. We are calling all state lawmakers, regardless of political affiliations, to recognize the urgency and adopt a universal helmet law in Florida without delay.
Motorcycle accidents are a serious issue across the United States, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reporting that helmet use reduces the risk of head injury by 69% and the risk of death by 37%. Yet, Florida remains one of the states where motorcyclists over 21 years old can ride without wearing helmets, provided they have a minimum of $10,000 in medical insurance coverage.
Statistics from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles indicate that the lack of a universal helmet law contributes to the state’s higher than average fatality rates in motorcycle accidents. Apart from the human cost, the financial burden on our healthcare system is enormous. Unhelmeted riders are more likely to suffer severe injuries, leading to longer hospital stays and increased medical expenses, often without insurance coverage, further straining taxpayer-funded resources.
However, implementing a universal helmet law is not just about reducing fatalities and injuries. It is about valuing life and ensuring safety for every motorcyclist on Florida's roads. Over 60% of Floridians support a helmet law, recognizing its potential to save lives and reduce long-term costs.
We urge Florida legislators to consider the overwhelming evidence and the voices of their constituents. A universal helmet law will not only save lives but also protect the future of countless individuals and families in our state. Let’s not wait for more unnecessary tragedies to happen. Stand with us and call for immediate legislative action to require all motorcyclists to wear helmets.
Please sign this petition to make a difference and protect the lives of motorcyclists across Florida.
Here is a image on me learning how to ride safe which is helmet, gloves, eye protection as well a long sleeve shirt or preferred a motorcycle jacket.
