Public schools should encourage student creativity and artistic expression while maintaining clear, age-appropriate standards for material displayed or distributed on school grounds.

This petition asks public school districts to establish and consistently enforce policies governing sexually explicit or overtly sexualized artwork in K–12 educational environments, regardless of the artistic style, fandom, community, or subject matter associated with the work.

Anthropomorphic animal artwork—sometimes associated with furry fandom—is not inherently inappropriate. The concern arises when artwork displayed, distributed, or promoted in a school environment contains sexually explicit or clearly adult-oriented material.

We call on school boards and education officials to:

Establish clear, content-neutral standards defining what constitutes sexually explicit or age-inappropriate visual material in K–12 schools.

Apply those standards consistently to artwork regardless of whether it depicts humans, anthropomorphic characters, fictional characters, or other subjects.

Create transparent procedures for teachers, students, and parents to report potentially inappropriate material for review.

Ensure that reviews consider students' ages, educational context, artistic merit, and applicable constitutional protections.

Provide educators and administrators with guidance for distinguishing ordinary creative expression from material inappropriate for a K–12 environment.

The objective should not be to stigmatize furry fandom, individual students, or particular forms of artistic expression. Instead, schools should maintain reasonable and consistently applied boundaries between age-appropriate creative expression and sexually explicit material.

We ask school boards and education policymakers to adopt clear, viewpoint-neutral standards that protect students while preserving legitimate artistic expression.
