High-speed hydrofoils are thrilling innovations in water sports, but they come with a serious risk to public safety due to their rigid, sharp design. A misjudged move or an unexpected fall can have catastrophic consequences, with blades potentially causing severe injuries, or worse. Knowing this, it's only sensible that we establish a protective measure that can ensure the safety of everyone enjoying the beach.
That's why I am calling for the implementation of a mandatory buffer zone of at least 100 yards between hydrofoils and other beachgoers at Bolsa Chica State Beach. This simple but effective measure will dramatically reduce the risk of injuries by ensuring a safe distance is maintained between hydrofoil riders and other surfers and swimmers.
