YOU ARE NEEDED AT THE GR CITY COMMISSION MEETING FOR PUBLIC COMMENT

Grand RapidsGrand Rapids, MI, United States
13 Mar 2024

YOU ARE NEEDED AT THE GR CITY COMMISSION MEETING FOR PUBLIC COMMENT on Tuesday, March 19th at 7:00 p.m. at Harrison Park Academy, 1440 Davis Ave. NW

(Commissioner Engagement starts at 5:30 p.m.)

REMEMBER: GR Citywide Investor-Friendly Zoning Law Changes Will Encourage:

  •  Emergency homeless shelters for up to 12 people in neighborhood homes (5.9.36)
Investors to displace long-term residents by making homes into apartment buildings "by right" (5.5.05/infill)
  • Increased rents and corporate landlord junk fees without any tenant safeguards (no protections included)
  • An increase from 4 to 6 unrelated occupants per rental unit (5.16.02)
Higher home prices with the addition of ADUs "by right"  reducing the number of Single Family Homes (5.9.03)

The Planning Commission has proposed NO PROTECTIONS for neighborhoods and permanently REMOVES NEIGHBOR INPUT (building "by right") on housing allowed next to you! The Planning Commission even wants permission from the City Commissioners to “waive or alter” its own zoning ordinances! (5.9.02)

Tell Your Commissioners to rein in the Planning Commission and add PROTECTIONS to New Zoning Laws.  Ask who is going to most benefit from these changes.  We need more affordable housing - not an open door to corporate greed, a Planning Commission power grab, and the end of neighborhood input on zoning changes!

Please share this information online and encourage others to participate.  Email grandrapidsneighbors@gmail.com if you'd like to receive email updates, volunteer to get the word out by distributing flyers or volunteering in anyway you think would be helpful.
