Requesting San Ramon City Council to be open & transparent on public comments of residents

The Issue

Petition Summary:

We, the residents of San Ramon, request the City Council to acknowledge the  emails received from residents on or before January 10, 2025, pertaining to the special meeting, and to address these concerns publicly. The voices of the residents should not be stifled and a response is demanded from the council during the January 14, 2025, meeting.

Petition:

Dear City Council of San Ramon,

On January 10, 2025, during the special meeting, the City Clerk acknowledged on record the flood of emails received from residents. However, the Council failed to mention or address these public comments during the meeting.

This lack of acknowledgment is deeply concerning, especially since many of these emails expressed support for appointing the candidate for the recently concluded Mayoral election who obtained more than 11,000 votes as the council member for District 2.

We, the undersigned residents of San Ramon, request the following:

That the City Council formally acknowledge the receipt of of the many emails from residents sent pertaining to the January 10 special meeting. The City Council should openly declared the number of emails received and how many of them involved the request to appoint Chirag Kathrani as the city council member for District 2.
That each council member individually addresses the public comments raised by residents on the appointment of the council member for District 2 during the upcoming January 14, 2025 meeting.
Residents have made their voices heard through emails and public comments. The City Council members were dismissive of the comments made via email and in-person at the city council meeting on January 10, 2025. The spirit of democracy which the political culture of this great country is built on should be respected by the City Council.

Please sign this petition to show your support for greater transparency and accountability in the governance of our city. Together, let’s remind our representatives of their duty to serve the people they are supposed to represent.
