Request university ( UPES) for at least 5% relaxation in attendance threshold

The Issue

I am a student at a university in Dehradun UPES , Uttarakhand, facing an unprecedented issue that has affected not just me, but many fellow students as well. This semester has been unusually challenging due to several uncontrollable events that have greatly impacted our ability to attend classes regularly.

Dehradun experienced severe flooding, which forced our university to transition to online classes. This sudden switch led to numerous complications. Many students, including myself, faced significant difficulties in terms of connectivity and access to resources, resulting in attendance discrepancies that were beyond our control. Consequently, several classes were not marked for attendance, which was a systemic oversight during this chaotic time.

Furthermore, this semester included several university-sanctioned breaks such as the convocation and the much-anticipated Spandan sports fest. These events, while significant in their own right, further disrupted regular class schedules and reduced overall instructional days.

Additionally, recurring card issues, a problem that seems to plague students every semester, compounded our struggle to meet the standard attendance threshold. This perennial technical fault needs immediate attention and resolution from university administration to ensure fair treatment of students.

I am personally facing debarment due to these cumulative disruptions, a consequence that feels deeply unjust given the circumstances. Many others like me are at risk of being unfairly penalized for factors that were not in our hands.

Thus, I urge the university administration to consider granting at least 5% relaxation in the attendance requirement for this semester. This adjustment would acknowledge the extraordinary difficulties the student body faced, provide much-needed relief, and give students like me the opportunity to complete our exams without the added stress of debarment.

This petition is a call for fairness and understanding from the authorities. Please join me in advocating for this reasonable accommodation by signing this petition and supporting students to overcome this unfair academic hurdle. Your support and solidarity can help us bring about a change that respects our struggles this semester.
