Request The US Fish and Wildlife Service Reverse Dog Ban at Slaughter Beach South End

Request The US Fish and Wildlife Service Reverse Dog Ban at Slaughter Beach South End
The Issue
For generations, dogs and their companions have enjoyed the serene atmosphere of Slaughter Beach's southern end, two miles north of Fowler Beach. This age-old tradition, treasured by many, is under threat due to recent amendments implemented by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Our dogs are more than pets. They are our family, our partners, our confidants who have always been allowed to accompany us on this small piece of paradise. Suddenly, the possibility of creating memories, walking and playing in the water has been denied without due consideration for dog owners who frequent the area.
It is important to recognize and commend the US Fish and Wildlife Service's work in protecting local fauna, especially the nesting birds shielded around Fowler Beach. However, the seasonal closures have, historically, adequately accomplished this without impacting Slaughter Beach's south end.
It is our belief that a balance can be struck that will not displace our furry friends while still safeguarding the wildlife we all cherish. There is room for us to coexist within our environment without enforcing severe restrictions that affect the community life that has thrived there for so long.
Let us join our hands and voices together and call upon the US Fish and Wildlife Service to rethink their decision. Let us seek a compromise that suits everyone involved, both bipedal and quadrupedal. Let our dogs continue to play, to engage, to bring joy to our lives and to the aromatic breeze swirling around Slaughter Beach's south end.
