We, the undersigned, express grave concerns regarding the conduct and general decorum of Ms. Kimberly Garrison, a current member of the Lower Merion School District School Board. Her actions during the recent policy committee meeting on September 6th, as well as the subsequent regular school board meeting on September 16th, have shown a distinct lack of empathy, civility, and professionalism that we expect from our elected representatives.

At a time when a historically marginalized group within our community raised valid concerns, Ms. Kimberly Garrison chose not to respond with compassion or open dialogue but instead doubled down on offensive and dismissive comments. This behavior is especially egregious given that Ms. Kimberly Garrison is not a member of the policy committee, further displaying a disregard for the district’s process and protocols.

We can no longer trust that Ms. Kimberly Garrison will act in the best interest of our students, particularly after she spread misinformation suggesting that Jewish people have not been marginalized.

In her own words "“There was a time before Jewish people decided that they were going to join the group of white people”

Her actions undermine the trust and confidence that our community places in the school board, which has a duty to represent and safeguard all students equally. 

Ms. Kimberly Garrison’s conduct violates the district’s Civility Policy (Policy 006), which clearly calls for professionalism and mutual respect in communication. Her refusal to acknowledge the omission of Jewish students from the equity policy, while redirecting the discussion to racism, is not only inappropriate but also reveals a troubling lack of understanding regarding inclusion and the safety of all students. Wanting every student to have a safe place to learn and a sense of belonging is not a form of racism—it is a fundamental right.

 Ms. Garrison should not continue to serve as the Education Foundation of Lower Merion Representative when she displays such disregard for facts and community concerns.  How can we, as parents and community members, feel safe attending future meetings when a board member has demonstrated disdain for those she is meant to represent?

This is not a personal attack; this is a stand for the values our school district upholds—respect, equity, and inclusion for all. By allowing behavior like Ms. Kimberly Garrison’s to go unaddressed, we risk fostering an environment where marginalized students and families are further alienated.

We respectfully urge the school board and district to ensure that such conduct is met with consequences, to restore the trust and confidence of the community.

 Ms. Kimberly Garrison’s behavior not only discredits her but threatens the integrity of the board. We, therefore, request that the district superintendent and school board:

Call for Ms. Garrison’s immediate resignation for the collective interest of our educational community.
Censure Ms. Garrison for her violations of district policies and for undermining the board’s commitment to equity and fairness.
