The Issue

As a resident and taxpayer of North Port, I am deeply concerned about the current City Manager’s handling of crucial city affairs, which I firmly believe is not in the best interest of our community. In recent months, decisions have been made that prioritize rapid development over the community’s wishes, environmental concerns, and long-term sustainability. It's time for us to stand up, voice our concerns, and demand change.

The role of a City Manager is a pivotal one, requiring a balance between the facilitation of development and the preservation of community values. Unfortunately, the person chosen for this position has been unable to maintain this balance, becoming effectively a rubber stamp for controversial projects without adequate public engagement or consideration of environmental impacts. Numerous development plans have proceeded despite substantial and documented opposition from residents, suggesting a pattern of decision-making that disregards public input and welfare.

Moreover, transparency in decision-making has been greatly lacking. Residents are often left in the dark about plans that will significantly alter the landscape and living conditions of North Port. Trust is the cornerstone of effective governance, and the apparent sidelining of community feedback has eroded this essential trust.

We call upon the City Commission to act on our behalf by terminating the current City Manager. It's imperative that the commission initiates a search for a new City Manager who not only listens but actively incorporates community feedback into planning and decision-making processes. This individual should demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship, recognizing the delicate balance between development and conservation that our community strongly values.

Our community deserves leaders who are accountable and transparent. We need proactive measures to ensure that all development plans align with the long-term vision and goals of North Port, considering not just the economic impacts, but also the social and environmental ramifications.

This petition is a demand for a new era of leadership in North Port; one that respects residents, prioritizes sustainable growth, and maintains open lines of communication with all stakeholders. Join us in advocating for a future where our voices are heard and our city development truly reflects our community values.

We need your support to make this change possible. Please sign this petition to urge the North Port City Commission to take immediate action for the benefit of our community.
