Request the Link to reconsider banking access in Porth
The Issue
Since 2017, Porth has been left with no banking facilities apart from basic cash access. This has caused difficulty for elderly, vulnerable people as well as businesses to carry out their day to day banking.
Since all the banks in Porth had closed foot fall and general trading in the town has decreased, without any improved banking facilities Porth will continue to decline and potential businesses will look else where to open, and businesses will move out of the town.
In addition to the businesses, visitors and residents in the town are having to go to other towns and are likely to use businesses in those towns instead of Porth.
The Porth and District Chamber of Trade requested the Link to look into the possibility of opening a Banking Hub or additional banking services in Porth. After the Link has looked into population data and how many cash machines are in Porth, they have decided Porth has adequate banking facilities.
Additional banking services wouldn't just benefit Porth but towns and residents of other neighbouring villagers especially the Rhondda Fach that has very small amount of banking facilities. The Link has only considered the people of Porth not the People of the Rhondda as a whole. A Banking Hub in Porth would benefit the Rhondda.
The banks claim they closed their branches due to poor in-branch numbers, and high online numbers, not wether or not the community benefitted from their branch or not. If you want to discuss anything banking related you are incredibly likely have to leave the Rhondda to do, many bank branches have long waiting times due to the demand and the scarcity of branches.
