The Issue

For those of us living along the bustling roadways of Manor farm road Bitterne triangle Southampton, every day brings a heightened sense of anxiety and concern, especially for our local school children, residents, and pets. As a parent and pet owner, I watch my child navigate their way to school amidst speeding cars, and I can't help but fear for their safety and the safety of others in our community who rely on these thoroughfares daily.

Over the past year alone, our area has witnessed several near-misses with vehicles often exceeding speed limits, and numerous collisions showing a glaring disregard for pedestrian safety. The current lack of adequate traffic calming measures is not just a minor oversight; it poses a real threat to our community's wellbeing.

and I like many others have lost pets due to the pure carelessness of motor vehicles.

Studies consistently show that physical traffic calming measures, such as speed bumps and pedestrian islands, can reduce vehicle speeds and significantly decrease the risk of accidents. According to the UK Department for Transport, implementing these measures can lead to a reduction in accidents by up to 20% and provide a calmer, safer environment for all road users.

Given this compelling evidence and the increasing traffic on our roadways, we formally request that Southampton City Council evaluates our section of the road for physical traffic calming measures. This evaluation would include considerations for implementing pedestrian crossings, additional signage, and speed regulation tools that will not only protect our children but also enhance the quality of life for all residents and pets.

By signing this petition, you are joining a unified community call to action to prioritize safety over speed. Let us work together to ensure our roads are not just thoroughfares but pathways to school, work, and daily life, free from fear and danger. Sign the petition today to make our roads safer for everyone.
