The Issue

I respectfully request the National Testing Agency (NTA) to increase the gate-closing time.

Exams such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, CUET PG, and CUET UG are very large-scale examinations with a huge number of applicants, and they require significant time and effort from students.

Due to the increasing number of applications every year, examination centres are often located very far from students’ residences. Because of this, students sometimes get delayed while reaching their examination centres.

If we consider the condition of roads and traffic, even when a student plans to arrive on time, heavy traffic and poor road conditions can still cause delays.

Moreover, the staff at some examination centres can be very rude to students and often lack empathy. They sometimes do not understand situations such as medical emergencies or issues faced by PwD candidates. Because of the strict gate-closing time, students who arrive slightly late are denied entry even after months of preparation.

The emotional distress caused by missing such an important examination can be extremely severe for students. In extreme situations, the pressure and disappointment have even led some students to experience suicidal thoughts because they feel their career is at risk.

Therefore, students should be allowed entry until half an hour before the examination starts, as it is the rule in many universities and institutes.
