The issue

I recently received a $333 fine for not paying my dog registration. It was a shocking moment for me as I had no clue that the payment was overdue. Despite my appeal, my request for the withdrawal of the infringement notice was rejected, adding to my frustration. I was unable to find any email or notification that reminded me of the due bill. I find this situation absolutely outrageous, and it highlights a significant flaw in the process used by the Noosa council.

Dog registration is essential, but so is ensuring that pet owners are appropriately notified before being fined. I am sure there are many pet owners who, like me, might miss the payment deadline unintentionally, especially if no effective reminders are in place. Our council must adopt a more considerate approach by issuing reminder notices before imposing hefty fines, ensuring that a bill lost in the digital void does not lead to undue penalties.

A simple reminder could make all the difference. I propose that Noosa council adopt a policy of issuing reminders using multiple contact methods before a fine is enforced. This could be done by first sending an email, followed by a text message or a postal notice should there be no payment after the initial reminder. This layered approach ensures a higher possibility that the message will reach the recipient.

Incorporating such a system is not merely a suggestion but a necessity to promote transparency and trust between the council and residents. By making this small change, Noosa council will not only enhance compliance but also foster goodwill and understanding among its constituency.

Please join me in advocating for this necessary change. Sign this petition to urge Noosa council to implement a multi-step reminder system before issuing fines for unpaid dog registrations. Together, we can work towards a fairer and more attentive council service for all pet owners in Noosa.
