Request ICC and BCCI to Change the Women's Cricket World Cup Venues
The Issue
This is a petition driven not by personal interests, but by an unwavering love for the sport. The passion for cricket extends beyond individual achievements; it involves bringing out the best our sport has to offer. It is time we lend our voices to the cause of the Women's Cricket World Cup. The prestigious tournament deserves to be played in iconic venues that can accommodate massive, appreciative crowds. The women, their dedication, their talent, their sportsmanship, deserve nothing less than to showcase their skills under the lights of the world stage on legendary pitches.
In recent years, women's cricket has seen a phenomenal rise. According to a 2019 ICC survey, the number of women's cricket teams globally has doubled since 2016. Despite these strides, women's cricket continues to be set apart from their male counterparts in terms of venues, and it's time for a change. We call on the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to give women's cricket the respect it truly deserves by staging the Women's Cricket World Cup in iconic, international-standard venues.
India is set to host the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup after 12 years, a milestone moment for women’s cricket. Since 2017, the game has seen remarkable growth, and India has been at the forefront of that change.
The MCG hosted 86,000+ fans for the Australia vs. India T20 World Cup final in 2020.
The WPL has revolutionized women’s cricket, bringing in massive crowds.
Pay parity is becoming a reality, thanks to progressive steps taken by cricket boards.
Players have become global brands, inspiring millions.
However, despite this incredible progress, the proposed venues for the 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup are deeply concerning. Four of the selected venues have never hosted a women’s international match, and Vizag last hosted one in 2014. This is an opportunity to make history—not an experiment.
When England hosted the World Cup, Lord’s hosted the final. When Australia hosted it, the MCG saw a record-breaking crowd. When South Africa hosted it, Cape Town delivered a packed final.
So why shouldn’t India’s grand finale be held in stadiums that have already proven their ability to attract massive crowds for women’s cricket?
We, the undersigned, urge the ICC and BCCI to reconsider the venue selection for the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. The best choices for a high-impact tournament are:
✅ Mumbai (DY Patil or Wankhede)
✅ Bengaluru
✅ Vadodara/Surat
✅ Delhi
✅ Chennai/Kolkata
These venues have consistently drawn large crowds for WPL and international games. Why settle for less when India has the infrastructure to make this tournament truly grand?
This is not only a plea for equality, but a call to inspire more participation and fan engagement. Provide our women cricketers a platform to inspire future generations at iconic venues. Sign this petition to demand a change for a fairer and more equitable stage for Women's Cricket. Let's rewrite history for the love of the game. Please sign the petition.
