Request ICAI to extend articleship cut-off under existing scheme till 31st Oct 2023

Subject: Request to Extend the Cut-off Date for Articleship Registration

Dear Sir/Madam,

We congratulate ICAI for launching new syllabus and taking some student friendly measures like reducing the duration of articleship, number of subjects, increasing minimum stipend etc.

I am writing to you on behalf of numerous students who have been affected by the recent introduction of the new syllabus by ICAI on 23rd June 2023. We would like to draw your attention to several issues that have arisen due to the cut-off date for articles under the current scheme, which is set for 30th June 2023.

Students who have appeared for the May-23 examination are facing uncertainty regarding their eligibility for articleship registration since the results are expected to be released only in July. This situation puts them at a disadvantage as they may miss the opportunity to register within the given timeframe.

Many eligible students may encounter difficulties in securing slots to complete their IT/OC training due to the limited availability of slots.
The short timeframe between the introduction of the new syllabus and the articleship cut-off date leaves them with insufficient time to secure suitable positions.

The process of selecting a suitable firm and completing the necessary registration formalities is time-consuming. The one-week duration provided for registration is not adequate for students to make informed decisions and complete the necessary procedures, causing undue stress and potential errors.

Final year B.Com students, who are interested in pursuing CA under direct entry scheme, will not have access to their final year results before the current cut-off date. This restriction prevents them from registering for articleship.

The  introduction of the new syllabus with a short cut off and the associated changes will likely create a significant mismatch in the demand and supply of articleship positions.

In light of the aforementioned issues and their impact on the career prospects of aspiring chartered accountants, we earnestly request the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to reconsider the current cut-off date for articleship registration.

We request you to -
1. extend the deadline for registration under the existing scheme until 31st October 2023.

2. Allow the students under current syllabus should be allowed to register for articleship even if they have cleared one group.

This extension will provide students with ample time to navigate the changes brought about by the new syllabus and make informed decisions regarding their articleship.

We believe that this extension will address the concerns of the affected students. We trust in the wisdom and understanding of the institute to recognize the challenges faced by students and take appropriate action to mitigate the impact of these challenges.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
