Over the years, I have witnessed the Geary Family YMCA, once a community hub providing excellent facilities for its members, experience a troubling decline in its amenities. These should be places where people feel encouraged and comfortable to frequent for their health and well-being. Unfortunately, this sense of encouragement has been overshadowed by persistent disrepair and lack of maintenance, deeply affecting our community and its members.

Many have noticed how the once reliable men's and women's saunas have become neglected and unusable. Similarly, the whirlpool, which has been replaced in the last decade, is reported as needing simple repairs that have been ignored. Furthermore, the women’s locker room is plagued by broken showers and inadequate water pressure, greatly inconveniencing members who rely on these facilities for their post-workout routine. In addition to these, the analog beam scales have been traded for less reliable digital scales, reflecting a deeper trend in eroding quality.

All these facilities once functioned as intended, providing comfort and a conducive environment for a healthy lifestyle. The excuse often cited for these unresolved issues is "no money," yet there has been no effort observed to explore alternative solutions like consulting outside professionals for repair quotes or investigating funding options elsewhere. Such steps could indeed provide a lifeline for revitalizing our YMCA and restoring it to its former standards of excellence.

We believe the leadership of the Geary Family YMCA needs to prioritize the condition of these essential amenities by transparently communicating with members about funding allocations and plans for repairs. By actively seeking out competitive bids and exploring collaborative strategies with community stakeholders, solutions can surely be found. This will not only preserve our beloved facilities but enhance them for future generations.

Let's urge the management of the Geary Family YMCA to take immediate action on these much-needed repairs so that all members can enjoy what the establishment was intended for — to promote health, fellowship, and an uplifting community spirit. Please sign this petition to support our goal of bringing our YMCA facilities back to the standards that our community deserves.
