The Issue

We, the undersigned students and supporters, are calling on Pearson Edexcel to urgently review the timing and structure of recent International A-Level (IAL) examinations due to widespread concerns about fairness and unrealistic time pressure.

Across multiple Pearson Edexcel International A-Level subjects, many students reported being unable to complete papers despite strong preparation and understanding of the material. Students consistently described having to rush through questions, skip sections, or leave answers unfinished because the allocated time was not sufficient for the length and difficulty of the examinations.

International A-Level results play a major role in university admissions, scholarships, and future opportunities worldwide. Exams should assess students’ knowledge, analytical ability, and understanding — not simply their ability to write at extreme speed under pressure.

Many students and teachers have expressed concerns that:
- The volume of questions was excessive for the time provided
- Some papers appeared significantly longer or more demanding than previous examination sessions
- Students could not fully demonstrate their knowledge within the time limit
- Time pressure negatively affected performance and wellbeing
- The balance between exam difficulty and timing felt unfair to many candidates internationally

We respectfully ask Pearson Edexcel to:
- Review the timing standards used for International A-Level examinations
- Investigate concerns raised by students and teachers regarding paper length and difficulty
- Consider fair grade boundary adjustments or special consideration where appropriate
- Improve future exam timing to ensure fair and accessible assessment for all international candidates

This petition is not intended to reduce academic standards or avoid challenge. Students understand that International A-Levels are rigorous qualifications. However, exams should remain balanced, reasonable, and achievable within the official time allocation.

We urge Pearson Edexcel to listen to the concerns of International A-Level students and educators around the world and take meaningful action to ensure fairness for all candidates.

Sign this petition to support a fair review of Pearson Edexcel International A-Level exam timing and conditions.
