Request for Residential sites for government employees
Request for Residential sites for government employees

PETITION TO THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF LEKWA MUNICIPALITY
To: The Executive Mayor
Lekwa Local Municipality
Subject: Request for Residential Sites for Government Employees
We, the undersigned government employees and residents within Lekwa Municipality, respectfully submit this petition requesting the municipality to provide residential sites for government workers to build their own homes.
Many government workers, including nurses, teachers, police officers, municipal workers, and other public servants, have dedicated their lives to serving the community of Lekwa. However, a large number of these workers are still renting accommodation and do not own homes due to the lack of available and affordable residential sites.
This situation places financial pressure on workers and their families, as rental costs continue to increase while opportunities to own property remain limited. Providing residential stands for government employees would help improve living conditions, encourage stability within the community, and reward workers who continue to serve the municipality faithfully.
The shortage of residential sites is also affecting service delivery within the municipality. Many skilled and experienced government workers are leaving Lekwa to work in other municipalities where opportunities to obtain residential sites and build homes are more accessible. As a result, departments continue to lose valuable professionals and skilled workers, which negatively impacts the quality and continuity of public services in our communities.
As we are approaching local government elections, many workers feel unappreciated by the municipality they continue to serve diligently. Government employees are important members of the community and active participants in democratic processes, yet many feel overlooked when it comes to opportunities for housing and development. We wish to emphasize that we are not asking the government to build houses for us, but rather to provide affordable residential sites where we can build homes for ourselves and our families through our own efforts.
We therefore humbly request the Executive Mayor and the municipality to:
Allocate residential sites specifically for government employees.
Ensure that the allocation process is fair, transparent, and affordable.
Prioritize workers who have been renting for many years and do not own property.
Develop serviced stands with access to water, electricity, roads, and sanitation.
Engage with government departments and worker representatives to address housing challenges affecting employees within Lekwa Municipality.
We believe this initiative will not only improve the welfare of government employees but also help retain skilled workers, strengthen service delivery, and contribute to the long-term development and stability of the Lekwa community.
We trust that our request will receive your urgent attention and positive consideration.
Yours faithfully
