Request for Reassignment of Electric Service in Cheatham County from NES to CEMC.
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and property owners of Cheatham County currently served by NES, respectfully request that Cheatham County leadership initiate a formal feasibility study regarding electric service within the county.This request is prompted by persistent power outages occurring on a monthly and at times weekly basis, including during normal, non-severe weather conditions.
These recurring interruptions negatively impact families, businesses, remote workers, and public safety.
While we recognize the complexity of electric service and TVA’s role in power distribution, other counties have initiated similar reviews of service alignment.
The frequency and consistency of outages outside of disaster events suggest that a formal evaluation is warranted. We believe this is a provider performance issue that directly affects our community.
Currently, only approximately 3% of Cheatham County is served by NES, while 97% is served by CEMC. Many residents along the outer county lines experience frequent outages compared to the rest of the county.
Our goal is to explore being absorbed by CEMC, aligning with the provider that already serves the vast majority of Cheatham County. We believe this alignment could result in improved reliability and greater service consistency for our communities.
We respectfully request that the Tennessee Public Service Commission review and consider this matter.
