The Issue

We have a serious issue in Mole Valley with noisy supercars and motorbikes, both on and off road. This is affecting the quality of life and health of local residents, as well as the natural environment.

The Government has confirmed the process for the installation of acoustic cameras to detect illegal exhaust noise from supercars and motorbikes and to implement an enforcement process against noisy exhausts.

The Government trials concluded that acoustic camera technology provides an objective and subjective evidence base that 95 dB LAmax at 7.5 metres is an appropriate noise level for enforcement against excessively noisy vehicles on roads with speed limits of 50mph or less, and that the noise camera’s deterrent effect resulted in changes to driver behaviour.

Mole Valley District Council has accepted this, and that they can initiate such enforcement in Mole Valley through the introduction of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) and acoustic cameras

We, hereby, request Mole Valley District Council to:

1)    move ahead with the PSPO consultation process, drafting and
implementing a PSPO regulating exhaust noise on the A24 and on Old London Road, Mickleham between the Givons Grove and Denbies Roundabouts, with a view to being able to extend the PSPO to other roads in Mole Valley if the trial is successful; and

2)    move ahead with enforcement of the PSPO via means other than acoustic cameras; and

3)    conduct the three-month trial with an acoustic camera installed on a post in Old London Road near the Burford Bridge Roundabout, noting that the District Council have currently assessed the costs of the trial at £35,000 and that the District Council underspent its budget for significantly more than this amount last year; and

4)    move ahead with further PSPOs and permanent installations of
acoustic cameras across Mole Valley if the trial proves successful.

Any person who lives, studies or works in Mole Valley, including under 18s can sign this petition.  This includes people who live within Surrey but come here for the above reasons. Please add manually or check that autofill has entered your postcode correctly in the email and address drop down section.  If it is not within the county of Surrey, it will not be counted. We do however encourage any visitors to the area who are affected by the noise to sign and add comments.  Thank you
