Request for Pond Road Crosswalk @ CVU Fields

Request for Pond Road Crosswalk @ CVU Fields
The Issue
This morning, it came to my attention that the First Roots - Wild Roots school at 96 Pond Road in Hinesburg VT has been advocating to to town of Hinesburg in request of a crosswalk with flashing lights to be installed at their location at 96 Pond Road. They have been asking for a significant period of time as their kids cross this high traffic road multiple times a day, and in addition, many CVU students cross there as they park at the church for their games at the CVU fields. This has been falling on deaf ears with the town, and despite repeated requests, they have not had any success in getting a crosswalk installed.
At current, there is no safe crossing area there and children of all ages are having to cross without any safe cross spots.
This is a huge life safety risk for the kids, their teachers, and the drivers passing through this area from both in town and out.
The people of Hinesburg are paying taxes for their community to be kept safe, but these kids are being failed. This is not a million dollar project. The townspeople need to speak up and make it known that the life safety of their kids matter to them, and they need to be loud until this gets fixed.
Let’s step up to do the right thing and get this changed!
Please take the time to contact your town members and speak up about how much this matters to you! Below are the contacts for your town manager and selectboard members. I’ve also included a blanket email for you to copy and paste into emails to them if you aren’t sure what to write yourself. Please reach out to them and do not stop until this gets resolved! Your town manager has a town paid take-home car for your tax dollars to cover his transport to/from work, but your kids are being put at risk every day. This needs to change!
Additionally, please try to attend the next Selectboard meeting to speak up about how important this is! Your next meeting is on May 6th at 6pm at the Hinesburg Town Hall, and is available on Zoom according to the website.

Email Title: Pond Road @ CVU Crosswalk Request
Email Body: Hello,
I am writing to request that the town install a sidewalk with flashing lights on Pond Road by the CVU Fields and the First Roots - Wild Roots school and Community Alliance Church.
I want to express my concern that this location does not have any safe way for children to cross the road, given that children of all ages cross here multiple times a day. Not only does the First Roots - Wild Roots school cross here with very small children multiple times a day, the CVU kids frequently park at the church and cross the road to attend games and practices on the fields too. This is a high traffic road and people are known to speed through here, placing all of these kids and anyone with them at high risk! Additionally, this is a traffic risk as passing cars from both in town and out have no warning of foot traffic.
I am requesting that you install an appropriate crosswalk here with flashing warning lights ASAP to ensure the safety of our children, passing drivers, and the teachers and family who cross here regularly.
Thank you for your prompt attention and concern regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
Your name here
