The Issue

TO NYC PARKS AND RECREATION

We, the undersigned residents and community members living near the newly updated park on LENOX AND 143rd  respectfully request the creation of a large, safe, and accessible dog park in our neighborhood.

Our neighborhood includes several multi-building apartment complexes with more than 5,000 apartments in total. These communities are dog-friendly, and a significant number of residents own dogs. Despite this large population, our neighborhood does not have a sufficiently large, secure dog run where dogs can exercise safely off-leash.

A well-maintained dog park would provide important benefits to our community, including:

A spacious, securely fenced area where dogs can run and exercise safely off-leash
Separate areas for large and small dogs
A safer alternative to exercising dogs near streets, playgrounds, and other public spaces
Opportunities for neighbors to meet and strengthen our community
Support for responsible pet ownership through waste stations, posted rules, water access, shaded seating, and proper maintenance
We ask NYC Parks and Rec to identify a suitable location, consult neighborhood residents, and provide funding for the construction and continued maintenance of a large dog park that can adequately serve our growing community.

With more than 5,000 dog-friendly apartments in the area, a large and secure dog run is a necessary neighborhood amenity—not merely a convenience. We respectfully ask you to support this request and begin reviewing possible locations and next steps.

Thank you for your consideration.
