The Issue
Last year, our building’s lift underwent an extensive and comprehensive modernisation process that spanned a significant duration of six months. During this period, the lessees collectively invested a substantial £370,000 into the project, which included renovations and refurbishments not just to the lift serving Block C, but also to the lift servicing Block A. However, to our dismay, the lift in Block C has faced repeated breakdowns just after its grand unveiling, raising unsettling doubts about its safety and reliability.
The lift's frequent breakdowns have not only caused significant inconvenience for the residents, but they also pose potential safety risks. As the building flats several floors, those residing on higher levels find themselves burdened with the added difficulty of climbing stairs consistently, which can lead to fatigue & pains and poses a considerable challenge for those who rely on the lift as a means of access to their homes.
We are deeply concerned about the continuing technical failures and safety hazards posed by this essential facility. It is imperative that a comprehensive and independent investigation be conducted to uncover the root causes of these persistent issues and to hold those responsible accountable for any oversight or negligence.
It is our right as residents of St Mary Abbot’s Court to feel safe and secure in our own homes. We urgently call for an impartial inquiry to thoroughly assess the current lift's safety risks and to ensure the future well-being of all residents. This investigation must explore not only potential technical deficiencies but also scrutinise the financial transactions and accountability of those responsible to manage the installation.
The situation demands immediate attention and action to safeguard our community and restore peace of mind. Please support this petition to urge relevant parties to initiate an independent and thorough investigation into the alarming situation of the "new" lift at St Mary Abbot’s Court Block C. Sign this petition to help us secure the safety and integrity of our living environment.
