Request Financial Audit of Berkeley County School District

Request Financial Audit of Berkeley County School District
The Issue
As a concerned parent within Berkeley County School District, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by our Special Education teachers due to a lack of essential curriculum and resources. Our educators are dedicated and passionate about supporting every child’s learning needs; however, they are continually confronted with significant obstacles stemming from inadequate district support. These concerns are further amplified by reports of potential hiring freezes and budget reductions, which ultimately jeopardize the quality of education provided to our children.
It is deeply troubling that teachers are compelled to advocate for—and personally fund—essential resources and curriculum necessary to provide a quality education. Members of the community have heard rumors of fiscal mismanagement within the district; however, a lack of transparency prevents a clear understanding of these issues. Parents, educators, and students deserve better.
For these reasons, we urgently call for a comprehensive financial audit of Berkeley County School District. The use of an independent and impartial auditing firm is essential to ensure transparency, accountability, and public trust. Each department within the district should be thoroughly reviewed to identify any financial discrepancies, inefficiencies, or potential misuse of funds.
Additionally, if any irregularities are identified during the initial audit, a forensic audit should subsequently follow. This step-by-step approach is critical to restoring public trust in the district’s financial management and ensuring responsible stewardship of public resources.
We urge parents, educators, and community members to stand together in demanding greater accountability and transparency from our school district. By signing this petition, you are advocating for the resources and support our teachers and students desperately need—and for a more transparent, responsible future for our children.
