Request FederalOversight of Major Labels and Streaming Services to Ensure Fair Competition

The Issue

I'm an independent recording artist with over 20 years of experience in the recording industry, but lately, I've been facing a major setback. A prestigious platform like Distrokid, which should be a beacon of transparency and fairness, has mistakenly labeled tens of thousands of my streams as 'artificial'. I've been in this business since the 1990s, earning RIAA certifications as far back as1996. I have a significant demographic eagerly waiting for my music. However, because I run my own independent label, I keep encountering obstacles not faced by artists within major label networks.

It's concerning that they suspect labels of using streaming services to give their artists an unfair competitive advantage. All the while, independent artists like myself who rely on honest, organic reach, are pushed in the corner and hampered by accusations of false streaming figures.

This issue isn't just about my music or my label; it's about fairness and integrity in the industry, where artists can settle into a level playing field, regardless of their choice to remain independent or join a major label

Therefore, we are asking for federal regulations and auditing on the streaming systems utilized by Major Labels and Streaming Services. This would ensure transparency and distribute equal opportunities to all artists, cutting down on the potential for manipulation in streaming numbers. The only way forward is to establish strict oversight, to make sure that every stream, listener, and fan is counted fairly, whether they follow an artist on a global conglomerate label or an independent one like mine.

Join us in demanding fairness and transparency in the music industry. Sign this petition to call for Federal oversight on these practices and establish a fair and equitable playing field for all artists.
