Request completion of the Chapel Hill E2E Greenway
The Issue
Growing up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, I have seen firsthand how our community values sustainability and connectedness through nature. The E2E Greenway, a planned trail between Estes Drive and Weaver Dairy Road, holds the promise of enhancing our town's commitment to these values. However, despite its extensive planning, the greenway remains incomplete, leaving a gap in our community's vision for a cohesive and environmentally conscious town.
The E2E Greenway is not just a path. It is a crucial piece of infrastructure that would connect neighborhoods, promote outdoor activity, and provide a safe route for people of all ages to enjoy. Studies from organizations like the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy show that greenways not only increase property values by up to 5% but also reduce pollution by encouraging alternative transportation, such as biking and walking. We have an opportunity to bring these benefits to Chapel Hill by completing this vital project.
Currently, the incomplete greenway limits options for safe pedestrian and cyclist travel between Estes and Weaver Dairy. The potential safety hazards of people having to navigate busy roads discourage individuals from choosing eco-friendly transportation modes. By finishing the E2E Greenway, we can foster a safer and greener community for everyone.
The Town of Chapel Hill has pledged to support sustainable infrastructure and should fulfill its commitment by prioritizing the completion of the E2E Greenway. This trail can effectively serve as a backbone for future networks, easing traffic congestion and promoting healthy, active lifestyles among residents.
I urge the Chapel Hill Town Council to put the E2E Greenway back on the agenda and ensure that the necessary steps are taken to bring this project to fruition. By signing this petition, you are calling for action that aligns with our community values and advocating for a sustainable future for Chapel Hill. Let's come together to make the E2E Greenway a reality and honor our town's dedication to green living. Please sign this petition to show your support for a completed E2E Greenway, connecting our lives and neighborhoods through nature and sustainability.
