Mr. Sivarasa Anojan, a Sri Lankan national, is currently facing a serious legal situation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His situation has caused deep concern among his family, friends and members of the wider community.

Udappu Cultural Association Liverpool is making this peaceful humanitarian appeal to respectfully ask the relevant authorities to consider Mr. Anojan’s circumstances with compassion and mercy. We fully respect the laws, sovereignty and judicial processes of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and this petition is not intended to interfere with the judicial process.

We respectfully ask the relevant Saudi authorities to consider every available legal, diplomatic and humanitarian avenue in Mr. Anojan’s case, including any possibility of clemency, pardon or commutation where permitted by law. We also respectfully ask the Government of Sri Lanka and its diplomatic and consular representatives to continue all appropriate efforts to support Mr. Anojan and his family.

The Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is closely following Mr. Anojan’s case through the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh and through diplomatic channels with the relevant Saudi authorities. We therefore respectfully support continued legal, diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to seek relief and to protect Mr. Anojan’s life.
